Setting Up Your Custom Domain and Adding SSL to your Hub

Adding a custom domain and enabling SSL are important steps in launching your Hub!

The process involves creating a CNAME DNS record with your domain registration service provider. In this article, we will review how to set up the CNAME record, moving your Hub to your new Custom Domain, and enabling SSL (HTTPS) on your Hub.

Step 1: Choose Your Subdomain

The first step in setting up your Custom Domain is to decide upon your subdomain. It's time to put your marketing cap on! Your subdomain should describe what visitors to your Hub can expect to find inside. Here are a few examples that most Uberflippers use:


Once you've selected your subdomain, proceed to step 2 below.


Step 2: Creating a CNAME Record With Your Domain Registration Service Provider

The steps required to setup your CNAME record will depend on your hosting service provider (ex. When in doubt, check with your provider or your IT team for additional help or instructions. 

  1. Create a subdomain on the root domain, for example, 'resources' (
  2. Have your domain provider create a CNAME record for the subdomain that points to the hostname ''

If you want to test if your CNAME record was created properly, you can visit WHATSMYDNS and enter your custom domain in the form ''

  1. Type in your Custom Domain (ex.;
  2. Select 'CNAME' from the drop-down menu (instead of 'A');
  3. Click Search;
  4. All of the servers should have '' as the result. It should look exactly like the results below (all records listed should point to '')

Step 3: Adding Your Custom Domain to Your Hub

You will now need to associate your Custom Domain with your Hub. This is done in the Uberflip application. 

Please note: only the Primary Owner of your account has access to this area of your Hub. If you are unable to access the Custom Domains area of your Hub, please email and our Support team can help you with the remaining custom domain set up steps. 

1. Go to the 'Account Settings' Section in the Uberflip App

After logging into your Account, click on the Profile icon in the top right of your screen and select the 'Account Settings' section. 

2. Under ‘Services’ select ‘Domains’

3. Select 'Add a Custom Domain'

Click the pink '+ Add a Custom Domain' button.

4. Enter your Custom Domain URL

A pop-up will appear. Enter your chosen custom domain (ex. Select 'http://' (more information can be found below about the additional step of adding HTTPS to your Hub, if applicable). 

You will need to read and agree to the Uberflip Terms, and select 'Add Custom Domain'.


Step 4: Moving Your Hub to the New Custom Domain

Once your CNAME Record is set up and your custom domain has been added to your Hub, you can now move your Hub to the new custom domain. Return to your Hub's home page and click on 'Hub Options' in the left menu and then select 'Change Hub Domain'.

Select your custom domain from the drop-down menu and click the blue 'Move Hub' button.

Congratulations, you have set up the custom domain for your Hub! 


Step 5: Adding SSL to your Hub (HTTPS)

If you would like to enable SSL for your Hub, you have two options. Which option you choose depends on whether your IT team prefers to use your own SSL certificate or would like to use our Uberflip multi-user certificate.

Using the Uberflip Multi-User Certificate:

To request SSL to be added to your Hub using our certificate, visit the 'Account Settings' section of your Hub in the Uberflip App. Under ‘Services’ select ‘Domains’. Beside your custom domain URL, select '+ Add SSL'


We aim to fulfill all SSL requests within 5 business days.

Please note: only the Primary Owner of your account has access to this area of your Hub. If you are unable to access the Custom Domains area of your Hub, you can email your request to enable SSL for your Hub to support@uberflip.comPlease be sure to include the URL for your Hub in your email request.

If you prefer to use your own SSL certificate:

If you are going to use your own certificate, you will need to determine if you have a wildcard certificate or if you will be purchasing a dedicated certificate. 

To be able to use your own SSL certificate for your Hub, we will need you to:

  1. Prepare a PEM file which includes the private key, certificate key, and certificate bundle keys (if applicable).

  2. Share that PEM file with the Uberflip Support team (through Google Drive or a secure file sharing tool that you trust).

Waiting for SSL to be Turned ON

While the HTTPS setup is pending, the custom domain will still function at HTTP. This enables you to continue using your Hub and Flipbooks on the existing HTTP domain. 

Once SSL is Turned ON

Once SSL is turned on, any HTTP links will automatically redirect to HTTPS. This is important as it will prevent any 'duplicate content' problems from an SEO perspective. Additionally, all embed codes will need to be re-generated after SSL is turned on.
