Best Practices for your Hub Menu

A great aspect of your Hub is having full control over your Hub menu structure - no need for IT help! As a best practice, we recommend using your Hub menu and Marketing Streams to organize your content around specific personas, topics, industries, regions, and/or resource types.

Putting yourself in the shoes of your visitors, how will they go about looking for content in your Hub? They may not know the names of your specific products or services, instead, they could be looking for more information about the challenges they are facing, their specific industry, or even their role.

Segmenting your Content

We not only recommend organizing your content in user-friendly ways, but also in a variety of different ways. You don't have to organize your content just by "Industry", you can also give the user the option to search by "Topic" and "Persona".

We recommend choosing at least 3 of the below ways to segment your content (if not more!). "Topic" and "Resource Type" are the most popular. 

This is an example of how Red Flag Group uses "Resource Type", "Region", "Industry" and "Topic" to structure their content using Marketing and Content Streams:


Planning your Hub Menu

When building out your Menu structure, it is important to brainstorm what content you currently have and the topics you want to organize your content around. You can always easily add a new menu item when you have enough content for a new topic. 

You can use the framework below to plan your menu structure before building it in your Hub. Once you have your Menu structure, you will have an understanding of which Marketing Streams you will need to create for these topics. 

NOTE: You can link to Marketing or Content Streams, this means you would not need to create a Marketing Stream for "Whitepapers" because you already have the Whitepapers Flipbook Folder Stream.

Building your Hub Menu

To build out your custom Hub menu, visit the Appearance section of your Hub. Select Menu from the top navigation bar. Select the + button to add a menu item.

There are three types of Menu Items that you can create:

  1. Section Heads (drop-down list heading)
  2. Stream Links
  3. Website Links

Section Heads

A Section Head can have more menu items nested within it. It is used to create drop-down lists of menu items.

Stream Links

A Stream Link takes the user to a specific stream within your Hub. It can link to a Marketing Stream or Content Stream (ex. your blog Stream or a Flipbook Folder) 

Website Links

A Website Link takes the user to a specified URL. It is usually used to link to a website outside of your Hub (for example, a "Contact Us" page).
